Dawick Ready To Take On The World

Toronto, ON – Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick will once again pursue the poker world’s biggest prize this weekend as the 2014 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event gets underway in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Dawick will enter this year’s Main Event by playing on Day 1B on Sunday, July 6th. 

Last year, Dawick made it to Day 4 and finished in 428th spot earning $28,063 making it his second best finish at the WSOP Main Event. 

“I’m looking to build off what I accomplished last year,” said Dawick of his run to the money.  “It’s the first time in a while that I’ve gone that far and had a few good runs.  I felt good about how things went and I hope the good things continue to happen this time around.  I want to build a chip stack and go deeper.”

In 2007, Dawick posted his best finish in the Main Event by finishing in 363rd place and winning $34,664.  American Jerry Yang won the Main Event in ’07 and took home $8.25 million.  At the 2013 tournament, American Ryan Riess survived the field of 6,352 players to claim the Main Event bracelet and $8,361,570 in prize money.

Shortly after buying the Toronto Rock in 2009, Dawick made his way to one of the featured tables and appeared on ESPN’s coverage of the tournament.  Seated at the Rock Owner’s table were 2004 Main Event Winner Greg Raymer and actor Jason Alexander of Seinfeld television fame.

At the 2013 Main Event, Dawick had another celebrity encounter playing for over 6 hours with television actor Ray Romano of Everybody Loves Raymond fame.  The celebrity experience included a hilarious bust out moment with his former TV co-star Brad Garrett.

“It’s always fun to play with celebrities,” explained Dawick.  “This event not only brings out the stars of the poker world but also some of brightest stars in the sports and entertainment world.  The Rock is a great conversation piece.  A lot of people at the tournament aren’t aware of the NLL and it gives me an opportunity to tell them about it, promote the team and the league.   I enjoy the opportunity to spread the word.”
