Garrett Billings Rated Best In The World

Toronto – There is regular debate around just who is the best player in the game, but for now, ILindoor.com has voiced their opinion and anointed Toronto Rock forward Garrett Billings with the title of best in the world as the 2013 National Lacrosse League season approaches.

The recognized leader in professional box lacrosse coverage, Inside Lacrosse’s ILindoor.com recently completed their countdown of the top 40 players in the game.  Billings rose from number 29 last year all the way to the top of this year’s list.

“The superlatives are plenty for Billings and the way he generates offense for himself and those around him,” wrote Bob Chavez of ILindoor.com.  “But if ever there were a case of the numbers speaking for themselves, then this is a prime example. And with the trajectory his game appears to be on, Billings has plenty left to say in the years to come.”

Billings’ magical 2012 season saw him set a pair of significant records.  His 114 points in the regular season was a new Rock single-season team record and the third best individual season in terms of point production in NLL history.  He also racked up 82 assists surpassing the old NLL mark of 74 to establish the new league benchmark.

The 26-year old sniper’s most impressive accomplishment may have come on March 31stin a game against the Buffalo Bandits.  The Rock won the game 15-9 in enemy territory at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY, however Billings did something that no other player had done in the 26-year history of the NLL.  He figured in on every one of the Rock’s 15 goals on the evening, collecting 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points.  In the process setting a Rock team record for most points in a game, falling just shy of the NLL record held by Buffalo’s Mark Steenhuis of 17 points in a game.

Billings played in his first Canadian Senior “A” Mann Cup championship in August with his hometown Langley Thunder of the Western Lacrosse Association this past summer.  After jumping out to a 2-0 series lead against the Ontario champion Peterborough Lakers, the Thunder went on to lose the series in six games.  Billings led the Mann Cup in scoring, registering 7 goals and 25 assists for 31 points in the six-game championship series played in Peterborough.

The Toronto Rock will open the 2013 NLL regular season on Saturday, January 12th in Calgary against the Roughnecks at the Scotiabank Saddledome at 9pm ET. That season opening road date will be followed up by a game in Edmonton the next day at 4pm ET.  The Rock will return home the following weekend to play Philadelphia in their 2013 home opener on Saturday, January 19 at Air Canada Centre at 7pm ET.
