GOING FOR GOLD ON SUNDAY
Jr. Rock Peewee & Midget Teams Will Play For Jr. NLL Champion’s Cup

Oakville, ON – Day 2 of the Jr. NLL Tournament is in the books and two of the three Jr. Rock teams have advanced to the Jr. NLL Champion’s Cup final, while another has already claimed bronze.

The Jr. Rock Bantam squad coached by Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick captured the bronze with an 8-3 win over the Jr. Stealth.  Tied 3-3 at the half, the Jr. Rock offence ran off 5 goals, while the defence slammed the door in the second half.  The Jr. Rock Bantams were upset by the Jr. Knighthawks in the semi-final game earlier on Saturday.

In Peewee action, the Jr. Rock continued their run through the tournament with a 10-5 win over the Jr. Mammoth.  Leading the way in the Jr. Rock’s semi-final victory was Cameron Sanderson (son of Rock all-time great Josh Sanderson) with 3 goals.  The Jr. Rock Peewee team will face the Jr. Knighthawks in the Peewee Jr. NLL Champion’s Cup at 12:00pm on Sunday.

The Jr. Rock Midget team lost a very tight 6-5 game with the Jr. Mammoth to finish out the round-robin early on Saturday morning.  By virtue of the tiebreaker formula, they came out ahead of the Jr. Rush in pool play to grab the top seed.  In the semi-final game, the Jr. Rock Midgets jumped out to a 4-0 lead but early in the second half the Jr. Rush had trimmed their lead to just a goal at 4-3.  The Jr. Rock offence was just too much in the late stages as another four-goal run sealed the victory and a berth in the Midget final against the Jr. Knighthawks on Sunday at 10:30am.

Rock players Scott Johnston and Nick Rose were behind the bench of the Peewees as they advanced on Saturday and Pat Campbell and Stephan Leblanc were in charge of the championship game bound Midgets.
