It’s On To Day 3 At The WSOP

Toronto – Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick went through a somewhat similar day on Tuesday’s Day 2B as his opening day experience last week at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After seeing his chip stack climb as high as 58,000, he ended the day with 27,200 in chips to advance to Day 3 as the field of 1,902 comes together on Thursday.

“I got the start I was looking for and was able to start chipping up and the big help was flopping the quad jacks early on,” said Dawick.  “For the first hour I got cards but things turned and I was card dead for about 10 hours.  That lasted until the last level making it a long day.  It was a grind.  I was just trying to be patient and stick with my game plan.”

Dawick has been tweeting right from his table at the WSOP Main Event and keeping Rock fans up to date on the latest developments.  Via his Twitter page Rock fans learned the day was taking its toll on Dawick physically.

“You’re sitting at a poker table for 12 hours and not getting cards, it’s like groundhog day just looking at your hand and mucking it for 10 hours,” explained Dawick.  “If you’re growing your chip stack it helps to move the day along. By the end of yesterday I was hurting, I was tired and I was frustrated.”

Staying with the game plan and keeping things in perspective has been the Rock Owner and President’s outlook on things throughout the Main Event.

“I just took a deep breath and focused. Luckily the last level started real well.  I was at 12,500 and picked up Aces on the first hand.  I got it all-in with another short stack, he hit his flush on the turn and I hit mine on the river.  The cards got hot and suddenly my chip stack was at about 58,000.

“A bad beat with Ace-Queen, after hitting top pair and top kicker on flop, and I’m under 30k instead of just under 60k.  I was really trying to get my money in to double up, but couldn’t get called.  As we approached the last hand, I announced to the table I was going blind for my last 25k but no one wanted to risk calling me, so I picked up the antes and the blinds and bagged 27,200 at the end of the day.”

A busy day on the felt was matched by a busy day on the lacrosse side of things as the Rock were in the process of swinging a major deal acquiring forward Dan Carey from Colorado.

“I got the text from Terry (Sanderson) letting me know the deal was done shortly after sitting down, and I was really excited,” said Dawick.  “My number one goal and focus is the success of the Rock.  It was a good distraction.  I’m thrilled to have acquired Dan but at the same time I’m sad to see Mat (MacLeod) and Creighton (Reid) go.”

Dawick has been sporting Rock attire throughout the WSOP Main Event and will continue to do so as the tournament moves on.

“I’ve had a lot of comments about the jersey,” expressed Dawick who has been wearing a number 29 Bob Watson Rock jersey.  “Folks from Toronto see it and get fired up.  It’s great to see in Las Vegas that people recognize the logo and the jersey and what it represents.  It’s a lot of fun.”

One thing aside from lacrosse and poker that is weighing on Dawick is being out of the country continuing to play in the World Series of Poker while his second eldest of three sons celebrates his birthday Thursday.

“I want to wish a Happy Birthday to my son Luke,” an emotional Dawick said.  “I know he’s got a lacrosse game Thursday night and will fill the net for me.  I miss him and I can’t wait to celebrate his birthday with him when I return home.”

Day 3 of the WSOP Main Event begins at 3pm ET on Thursday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas.  The total Main Event prize pool is over $64.5 million with the winner of the bracelet set to take home $8.7 million.
