National Lacrosse League Entry Draft Wednesday Nig

TORONTO – While the Toronto Rock do not select until the second round (15th overall) in the 2006 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, Rock management are still busy finalizing preparations for the annual affair.

“Without a first-round pick this year, our management and coaching staff have spent a significant amount of time evaluating a group of players that we believe will be available in the second round with the 15th pick overall,” said Rock Director of Lacrosse Operations, Mike Kloepfer. “This year’s draft will not be as predictable in the first 10 picks as last year’s was.”

The 2006 NLL Entry Draft takes place on Wednesday Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. (EST) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

With a blend of graduating NCAA field lacrosse stars and gritty Canadian box lacrosse players, the 2006 Draft is fairly unpredictable, insiders say. Geoff Snider (University of Denver, Coquitlam Adanacs Sr. A and Team Canada field lacrosse), Illija Gajic (Burnaby Lakers Jr. A), Paul Dawson (Brampton Excelsiors Jr. A goalie), Brett Bucktooth (Syracuse, St. Regis Indians, Onondaga Redhawks, Iroquois Nationals), Kyle Sorensen (Bellarmine, Peterborough Lakers Jr. A), Kyle Dixon (Virginia) and Kyle Wailes (Brown, Toronto Beaches Jr. A) are expected to be among the top prospects.

Athan Ianucci, a star forward with the WLA’s New Westminster Salmonbellies who is currently with Hofstra of the NCAA, is expected to go high if he renounces his NCAA eligibility prior to the draft. At the time of this release, Ianucci had not officially entered the draft. More information on player eligibility is available at https://www.nll.com/draftreq.shtml.

Fans wanting to watch the draft will be able to access the broadcast through the league Web site at www.nll.com. The broadcast will be the first time the draft will be seen live around the world.
