Rock Faces Must Win Situation In Game 2

Oakville, ON – Tonight the Champion’s Cup Final continues with Game 2 of the best-of-3 championship series between the Toronto Rock and Edmonton Rush at Edmonton’s Rexall Place.  Fans can watch the game live on TSN1/4 and TSN GO at 9:30pm ET.

The Rock got out of the gate well in Game 1 building an early 2-0 lead, but the Rush counted six in a row and chased Toronto starting netminder Brandon Miller early in the second quarter en route to a 15-9 Game 1 victory.  The win gives Edmonton the chance to win their first ever Champion’s Cup in Game 2 on Friday night.

Toronto closed the gap on a pair of occasions, but each time it was Edmonton stringing together goals to stretch the gap and keep the Rock out of reach.

Toronto’s offence was led by Kevin Crowley (2,2) and Rob Hellyer (1,3) in Game 1.  The Rock are well aware that they will likely need to score more than 9 goals if they want to push this series to a third and deciding game back in Toronto next weekend.

On the defensive side, the Rock penalty kill held the Edmonton power play to 2 goals on 5 opportunities.  Toronto gave up 54 shots, 30 of which came in the first half.

Minus a few bumps and bruises that are common at this time of year, the Rock enters Game 2 of the series in relatively good shape.  Both Miller and Nick Rose saw time in the Rock net in Game 1 and Head Coach John Lovell has kept his cards close to his vest as to just who he will start in this pivotal second game of the series.

The Toronto Rock boast a lot of experience in NLL championship games and there are a lot of players with championship rings in the Rock locker room that can draw on the experience of past success.

“Confidence comes from having success and doing the things we do,” said Rock forward Colin Doyle.  “To a man, we might not have been at our best last weekend and we had it handed to us by a very good team.  Our energy level and compete levels, they need to be higher because Edmonton showed us where those levels needs to be.”

The Rock have not lost back to back games this season, meaning they are 5-0 following a loss and have shown the ability to bounce back time and time again in 2015.

Rock fans who are looking to get together can do so at the official Toronto Rock viewing party at Shoeless Joe’s at 276 King Street West in Downtown Toronto Friday night.  The Toronto Rock Cheerleaders will be on hand and fans in attendance will have a chance to win prize packs courtesy of the Toronto Rock and Mill Street Brewery.

If necessary, game 3 will be Saturday, June 13 at Air Canada Centre at 7pm.  Tickets for that game, should the Rock be victorious in Game 2, will go on sale Saturday at 12pm at torontorock.com and ticketmaster.ca.  For more information on the BEST ticket in town, please call 416-596-3075.
