Rock Looking For New “IGGY”

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Rock are looking for a new and energetic part of their team.  The only man to ever wear the moniker “IGGY” in team history has moved on to take a position with the San Antonio Spurs organization, which includes responsibilities with the AHL and WNBA franchises as well.

Russell Kovshoff has been a part of the Rock team behind the scenes since 2007 beginning in a game day operations position prior to taking on the role of “IGGY” for the 2011 season.  However, Kovshoff first fell in love with the Rock during the 2006 season.

“My first Rock game I went to was in 2006 and I just loved the atmosphere and had some much fun,” recalls Kovshoff.  “The fans were so engaged, and all I thought about was how exciting it would be to be a part of the Toronto Rock.”

As “IGGY” became his game day responsibility, it was clear to Kovshoff that it was more than just being a mascot for a sports team.

“The impact of making a difference and putting smiles on the faces of Rock nation and the kids in particular was really special,” explained Kovshoff.  “One smile, one high-five, one hug at a time.  It was so great to know that at the one moment, nothing matters but some goofy fun with a great smiling mascot.”

His passion and enthusiasm was as also been shared with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors as a member of their game day operations team.

The new role will require Kovshoff to relocate to Texas and play a key role in all three teams (NBA, AHL, WNBA) marketing and game day promotion departments.

So now the call goes out the Toronto Rock community to find the next “IGGY” who will be responsible for making every Toronto Rock home game and event a unique experience for the fans.
