Rock Get Their Second Win In Two Tries Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock posted their second consecutive win of the pre-season, defeating the Colorado Mammoth 15-9 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON on Saturday night. “It was a good result for the guys. Anytime you play a game, you like to come out on the right end,” said Rock head coach Matt Sawyer. “Every time we’re together we want to get better and take a step forward so after our Tuesday night practice, which was probably our weakest so far, it was encouraging to see us play well. A lot of good things to like out there tonight.” The Rock fell behind 2-0 early, but went on a 5-goal run to take the lead after the first quarter. Dan Lintner and Mikey MacDonald picked up right where they left off in last week’s pre-season win over Georgia. The duo each scored a pair, while Brett Hickey scored the Rock’s fifth goal with just a couple of ticks left on the clock in the first. The legendary John Grant Jr. scored three goals in the second quarter, keeping the Mammoth close. The Rock held a 24-18 edge in shots on goal at the half, but were up by just pair, 9-7 at halftime. Hickey scored his second of the game and Kieran McArdle, Kasey Beirnes and Brodie Merrill all had singles. After Colorado scored the first goal of the quarter, the Rock went on a 3-goal run to stretch their lead to four goals, 12-8 after three quarters. Nick Rose stopped 17 of the 25 shots he faced over his 45 minutes in goal. Toronto didn’t take their foot off the gas in the final quarter, scoring three more times to Colorado’s one. Brodie Tutton, Sandy Chapman and Kyle Aquin all chipping in with a goal each. Steve Fryer allowed just one goal on the ten shots he faced in the fourth quarter. The Rock will resume training camp on Tuesday night in Oakville and will host the Buffalo Bandits one week from tonight on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the TRAC.
