MAN UP WITH….Garrett Billings

When did you decide you wanted to be a pro lacrosse player?
When I was watching the Toronto Rock win championships since 1999. Kaleb Toth scoring that winner with seconds remaining in 2000 is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in lacrosse.

Best lacrosse memory?
Winning the 2005 Minto Cup championship with the Burnaby Lakers.  We had a young team that came together perfectly to get the job done.

If you could change or add a rule to box lacrosse what would it be?
I honestly don’t notice the music while im playing, but while im a spectator for games I prefer to hear the sounds of the game.

Best pump-up song?
DMX “Where da hood at”

Have any pre-game rituals?
Throwing bad passes with a team mate. The majority of passes coming your way in a game are not going to be perfect, so why not prepare for the bad ones.

Your best lacrosse workout…
Running helps, but nothing gets you in shape like playing a lot.

One goalie you don’t want to go one-on-one with?
I haven’t played against many of the goalies in this league yet so im gonna go with Craig Robertson on the old 4×4 nets. He played for the jr New West Bellies in 07 and you could literally not see an inch of net. He wouldn’t bite on fakes and quick sticks didn’t work, I still wouldn’t be able to get it by him.

Describe your game style…
Point Guard

Who is the best player to ever hold a stick?
John Tavares or John Grant Jr. or Casey Powell…. or Gary Gait

Best fight you’ve been in/seen?
Some of the warm up brawls in junior were just crazy. My first time playing lacrosse in Ontario (Minto cup 2003 at St. Catherines) there was a brawl during warm-ups.  A couple players of ours lost their sticks, which were then tossed over the glass into the crowd. When we got them back, the shafts had been broken and the heads mangled.

In one word describe your “game face”.
Relaxed

What’s the worst injury you’ve had?
Sprained ankle

Favourite thing about Toronto…
The fact that the fans here know the game so well, it would be safe to bet that most of the people in the stands are involved in the game at some level.

Do you play any other sports?
I played hockey till I was sixteen. I am still a huge Canucks fan.
