Rock And Knighthawks Tie 14-14

ROCK AND KNIGHTHAWKS TIE 14-14

Slow Start For Toronto Ends In Pre-Season Stalemate

Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock started slow, eventually took the lead, but gave up the tying goal in the final minute to the visiting Rochester Knighthawks resulting in a 14-14 pre-season tie on Saturday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.

“It’s good to face some adversity early and see how we respond,” said Rock captain Challen Rogers.  “They were hungrier than we were to start the game, but once we settled in, things slowed down for us.  The game ended in a tie but there were a lot of good things to take away from the game.”

The Knighthawks built a 5-1 lead, just 12 minutes into the opening quarter.  The Rock rallied for a pair of goals in the final two minutes including a marker with just two seconds left in the frame to close the gap to a pair, down 5-3 after one.

The Rock scored six times in the second quarter and held Rochester to four goals as the first half ended tied 9-9.

The Knighthawks got a pair of goals from former Rock forward Turner Evans to begin the third quarter and take an 11-9 lead.  Rock rookie Josh Jubenville kickstarted a three-goal run that saw Toronto take a 12-11 lead.  However, with the Rock net empty and pressing for a goal, Rochester’s Shawn Evans recovered a loose ball and scored into an empty net just before the buzzer, tying the game 12-12 after three quarters.

After the Rock and Knighthawks traded goals, Dan Dawson’s third of the game put Toronto ahead 14-13 with just under five minutes to play.  Rochester wasn’t done, and it was Evans scoring to tie the game with 54 seconds left in regulation.  The Rock had several chances to win the game in the final moments but were unable to beat former Rock netminder Steve Fryer.

The Toronto Rock will continue training camp on Tuesday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.  The team’s next exhibition scrimmage will be next Saturday, November 23 against the Saskatchewan Rush at 7pm ET at the TRAC.
