Star Forward Hoping For A Healthy 20-21 Season

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock General Manager Jamie Dawick announced today that forward Adam Jones has agreed to a 1-year contract extension and will not become an unrestricted free agent on August 1.  The signing is pending league approval.

“We are extremely happy to get this deal done and keep Adam in Toronto,” said Dawick.  “We want to get him back into the lineup and healthy.  When he’s healthy, he is still one of the elite lefty scorers.  At 100 percent and ready to go, I expect him to pick up right where he left off as one of the league’s best goal scorers.”

The Rock acquired Jones from the Saskatchewan Rush in 2017 in exchange for a pair of first round draft picks.  The 31-year old Owen Sound, ON native has averaged more than two goals per game in his career with 283 in just 122 games played.  With previous stops in Colorado and Saskatchewan now in the rearview mirror, he’s hoping his stay in Rock City is his final destination.

“It was never in my mind to go anywhere, I want to finish my career with the Rock,” said Jones.   “I was glad when Jamie called because I love Toronto and being a part of the Rock organization.  We also have some unfinished business with what we started last season.”

Jones was limited to just one game in the 19-20 season after being injured in the Rock’s home opener on Dec. 7 against New England.  After taking a shot on goal, Jones was hit by Black Wolves’ forward Stephan Leblanc, left the game with multiple broken ribs and didn’t return for the next ten games.  He was nearing a return to play when the 19-20 season was interrupted prior to the Rock’s scheduled March 13 game against Buffalo, which Jones eyed as a return.

“Last season was really tough.  It felt like I had to prepare three times to get ready for the season,” explained Jones.   “I had to train and get ready for training camp, then I had to rest the injury and re-train to get ready to return, then the season was paused, and we thought there was a chance we would resume with the playoffs and I started ramping up for that.  No one wants to sit and watch their team play, you feel like you’re letting down your teammates when you’re hurt.  It was tough, but I’m looking forward to another crack at it.  The time away makes you even more excited to get back.”
