Pre-Season Begins With 16-11 Win

ROCK OPEN PRE-SEASON WITH 16-11 WIN

Adam Jones Scores Four Times In Victory Over Colorado Mammoth

Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock opened the pre-season with a 16-11 win over the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday night at a jam-packed Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.

Toronto scored first and never trailed, leading 4-2 after the first, 8-6 at the half and 14-10 through three quarters.

After taking the summer lacrosse season off, forward Adam Jones didn’t show any signs of rust opening the scoring just over five minutes into the first quarter. He would finish with four goals to pace the Rock offence.

“I was off all summer and didn’t know what to expect and after the first quarter, it sure felt like I had missed the whole summer,” joked Jones.  “It’s exhibition, but it always feels good to get on the game sheet and help your team win.”

There were several rookies making their pre-season debuts, but Rock 2019 second round pick Zach Manns certainly turned some heads, scoring twice and adding three assists for a five-point game.

The Rock’s biggest off-season acquisition was without a doubt Dan Dawson and he also delivered the type of performance Toronto fans should get used to.  The big right-handed shooting forward scored once and piled up six assists.

“It was a good first outing for us,” said Rock Head Coach Matt Sawyer.  “Any time you get together and play a game against some competition, you’re always looking to win so it’s good for the guys.”

Rock goaltending duties were split between Riley Hutchcraft (6 GA, 14 saves) and rookie Troy Holowchuk (5 GA, 12 saves).  Toronto outshot Colorado 47-37 on the evening.

In addition to Jones’ four goals, captain Challen Rogers scored three times, Scott Dominey, Dan Craig, Brandon Slade and Manns each had a pair of tallies.  Dawson notched a single marker.  The Rock scored twice on the power play.

The Toronto Rock will continue training camp on Tuesday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.  The team’s next exhibition scrimmage will be next Saturday, November 16 against the expansion Rochester Knighthawks at 7pm ET at the TRAC.
