NLL VETERAN MATT SHEARER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Rock forward, Matt Shearer announced his retirement on November 28th after playing ten years in the National Lacrosse League.

Shearer, 34, played in 115 career games in the NLL and spent the last four seasons with the Toronto Rock, including one Championship season in 2005.

Shearer says that closing out his lacrosse career has definitely been a tough decision to make. “Not having lacrosse on the calendar will definitely be something that will take getting used to. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to move back to Canada a few years ago and play with the guys in Toronto.”

“Playing with the Rock in front of friends and family has been an honour and I really thank the organization for the opportunity – everyone involved with the club is truly first class.

The Whitby native and General Manager at Under Armour, and his wife, Liz welcomed their first child, daughter Sophie almost a month ago.

“Our organization is proud to acknowledge Matt’s tremendous lacrosse career and happy that he will retire a Toronto Rock player” says Toronto Rock Director of Lacrosse Operations, Mike Kloepfer.
