The Toronto Rock are preparing for what looks to be the biggest home opening crowd at the Air Canada Centre in recent years. Tomorrow night at 7:30pm the Rock will take on the League’s newest edition: the Minnesota Swarm. The Swarm have seen success in the pre-season and their first regular season game that turned into an upset win over the Rochester Knighthawks. Many of the players on the Swarm’s roster have a great deal of NLL playing experience that compliments the surplus of new talent that they have also added to their roster.
Toronto fans shouldn’t worry though, the Rock have the benefit of veteran experience and an undeniable sense of team spirit that will allow them to press thorough tomorrow’s game despite what some may consider to be a precarious situation. Captain Jim Veltman will miss his second game in row due to a pulled hamstring. The injury that ended his 124 game iron man streak, kept him out of last week’s season opener against the Bandits as well. Veteran defenseman Glenn Clark will also miss the bout due to recent knee surgery.
With an array of changes to the Rock’s roster in the off season, there was a chance that the team would take some time to come together. But with 1 regular season win under their belts in addition to 2 preseason game wins, the Rock are ready to roll into the 2005 season. In the past, the Rock have seen a great deal of success in home opening games scenarios, having gone 5-1 in their 6 season history.
“All of the guys on this team have gelled quickly and it was obvious from the time that training camp started that there was a certain level of chemistry on the floor. We’ve had a great start to the season and we’re looking forward to seeing what kind of game Minnesota will bring to the floor on Saturday.” Blaine Manning, Toronto Rock Forward.
Tickets are still available for this Saturday’s game through Ticketmaster outlets online at www.ticketmaster.ca , by phone at (416) 872 5000 or in person at the Box Office at the Air Canada Centre.
