Competition is the theme on Day 1 of Training Camp

The Page Officially Turns

Oakville, ON – The reigning NLL Champion Toronto Rock opened training camp on Saturday afternoon at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville.  This year’s training camp is filled with talent and it was on full display throughout the two-hour on floor session.

“It’ll be competitive,” said Toronto Rock Owner and GM Jamie Dawick.  “There’s a few guys banged up, and a few spots available whether they are internal as to where you sit on the depth chart or who’s fighting for Active Roster or Practice Roster spots.  We’ll get back at it on Tuesday and then jump right into an exhibition game next Saturday.”

Rock Head Coach Matt Sawyer was impressed with the group on day one and his comments echoed those of Dawick’s, also noting there’s going to be some stiff competition in this training camp.

“It’s a challenge for us and today is the first time we get together to build this team for this year,” explained Sawyer.  “I think it’s important each and every year to inject some youth and athleticism and a little bit of turnover keeps everybody honest.  We have a good group here, a deep group here carrying over from last year, and we have a handful of incoming young NLL players that are going to push for spots.”

The Rock will have their second training camp session on Tuesday night and will open the preseason on Saturday, November 7 at 7pm vs Saskatchewan at the TRAC in Oakville.

The Rock would like to hear from fans as the team has asked those planning to attend any upcoming exhibition to help the team plan for the games by completing an attendance survey.  All fans that complete the attendance survey will be entered to win a Capelli Sports Next Generation Toronto Rock Premier Jersey of the player of their choosing and it will be autographed by that player.
