Dan Craig Signs 2-Year Contract Extension

Underrated Superstar Coming Into His Own

Oakville, ON – On the eve of the opening of the NLL’s free agency period, Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of Rock forward Dan Craig to a 2-year contract extension that runs through the 2024-25 season.  The signing is pending league approval.

Craig, who is 29-years old and from Shelburne, ON, has come into his own at the pro level over the last two seasons.  In 22-23, he set career highs in goals (35), assists (47) and points (82), just slightly improving on his 21-22 stats line of 34-45-79.  He’s become a model of consistency and a key part of the Rock’s offence.

“I am excited to get the deal done,” said Dawick.  “He’s been a huge part of the team and our recent success.  He’s continued to get better every year and we think there’s still more ahead for him.  With the addition of Mark Matthews, we think that will only help him take his game to an even higher level.”

The offensive lefty who boasts an accurate outside shot and a tough-to-check inside game, was a sixth-round draft pick by the Rock in the 2017 NLL Draft, 57th overall.  It should be noted there were only 59 picks in the draft that year, making Craig’s success story all that more unlikely.  Or does it?

“He was a Jr. A MVP, and he didn’t win that award by fluke,” said Dawick.   “He hadn’t played box lacrosse in a while leading into his draft year and his future was a bit unclear, that’s the only reason he slipped that far in the draft.  He’s worked hard, rediscovered his love for the game, and is playing at the level he was at when he was a great Jr. A player.  Maybe most importantly, he’s doing that night in and night out against the best players in the world.”

Craig grew up attending Toronto Rock games and knows that playing in front of the Rock City faithful is special.

“I’m really excited to be back with Toronto for another two seasons,” said Craig.  “As a Rock fan growing up, it is a great feeling to continue playing for such a storied and first-class organization.  Jamie, Matt (Sawyer) and the rest of the staff are the best in the business, and I can’t wait to get the upcoming season underway.”

After being voted by his NLL peers as one of the top five most underrated players in a recent NLLPA player poll, maybe the secret is out that Dan Craig has become one of the league’s brightest offensive stars.  It’s something Rock City has known for some time.

The NLL’s free agency period opens in just hours as once the clock strikes midnight ET tonight, General Managers from around the league will begin picking over the crop of Unrestricted Free Agents in hopes of adding depth to their rosters, all in pursuit of bringing their fans an NLL Cup championship.
