ROCK ACQUIRE SANDY CHAPMAN FROM ROCHESTER

TORONTO – Through a number of trades and deals today, the Toronto Rock have acquired former Rochester defenceman Sandy Chapman in a trade with the Knighthawks and sent Bill McGlone to Philadelphia and saw forward Luke Wiles returning to the Stealth, now playing out of Everett, Washington.  Terms of the deals were not disclosed due to club policy.

The Rock first traded Luke Wiles to the Washington Stealth, formerly the San Jose Stealth in exchange for Kevin Huntley and a 2011 Entry Draft selection.

Wiles, forward from Orillia, ON tallied 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) during the 2009 season with the Rock.  He was acquired by Toronto in September 2009 during a draft day deal in exchange for a 2008 first round pick with the San Jose Stealth.

“In order to work this deal and get Chapman and a couple of draft picks, we had to give up Wiles as a step in helping us re-build the Rock for the upcoming season,” said Rock GM Terry Sanderson.  “The Rock wishes Luke all the best in Washington.”

The next transaction involved Peter Jacobs, newly acquired by the Philadelphia Wings after this afternoon’s NLL Dispersal Draft, who was picked up by the Rock along with a 2011 Entry Draft selection in exchange for Kevin Huntley and Rock forward Bill McGlone.

Jacobs was then dealt to the Rochester Knighthawks for former Toronto Rock player Sandy Chapman.

Sanderson is thrilled to have Chapman back on board with the Rock for the 2010 season.

“I have this wish list of potential guys I’d love to see on the team and Chappy was on that list,” said Sanderson.

The Toronto-born Chapman was the Rock’s first round pick in the 2001 NLL Entry Draft.  During his time with the Rock, the defender won the NLL Champions Cup three times (’02, ’03, ’05), recorded 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) and collected 124 loose balls in 44 games played.

In 2005, the Edmonton Rush selected Chapman third in the NLL Expansion Draft from the Rock and later traded him to the Rochester Knighthawks along with a 2005 second round Entry Draft pick for Andrew Turner, Cam Bergman and Buck Stobart.

With the Knighthawks for four seasons, Chapman won the 2007 NLL championship and was a two-time team Defenceman of the Year.

In his eight year career, Chapman has played in 102 games, collected 75 points (16 goals, 59 assists) and scooped 368 loose balls.

“This season we want to play our pressure defence and help tighten up our defensive end,” said Sanderson.  “Sandy is the ultimate team guy and has a great respect among his teammates.”
