Rock Coaching Staff Contracts Extended

ROCK EXTEND CONTRACTS OF ENTIRE COACHING STAFF

Sawyer, Codd, Manning Return

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick today announced contract extensions for the team’s coaching staff.  Head Coach Matt Sawyer and his Assistant Coaches Bruce Codd and Blaine Manning will enter their fourth season together as a bench staff in 2019-20.  Codd has also been named the team’s Assistant General Manager.

Terms of the contracts were not announced as per club policy.

“We’re going in the right direction,” said Dawick.  “I am very confident in our coaching staff.  This team is ready to take that next step and compete for a championship and I believe these are the coaches to get us there.  Individually, everyone brings a little something different to the table.  Together, they form a very effective and cohesive group.”

Sawyer, a 2019 runner up for the Les Bartley Award for NLL Head Coach of the Year, has been a part of the Rock organization at different times and in various capacities dating back to 2005.  This will be his fourth season as the Head Coach of the club, twice guiding the team to the East Division Finals and compiling a 29-25 record.  Last season, the Rock finished 12-6, tied for second best in the NLL, and equalled a franchise record with eight home wins.

Codd is coming off quite a summer.  During the NLL off-season, he coaches the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen who recently captured the Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Championship.  Adding the Assistant GM title means he will have more responsibility when it comes to identifying and evaluating players both at the junior and professional levels.

Set to enter his seventh season on the bench as an assistant coach, Manning will continue to be responsible for calling the numbers up front on the Rock offence.  After retiring following the 2013 season, the all-time Rock great made the seamless transition from playing to coaching with the organization he spent all twelve of his NLL seasons with as a player.

The Toronto Rock will open training camp on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.
