Rock Fall 12-8 To Knighthawks

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Knighthawks (5-6) defeated the Toronto Rock (9-5) by a score of 12-8 on the strength of goaltender Matt Vinc’s 47-save effort at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY on Saturday night.

Nothing went Toronto’s way in the opening quarter as Rochester held Toronto scoreless jumping out to a 4-0 lead through 15 minutes.

Garrett Billings answered with a pair of powerplay goals to get the Rock offence rolling the second quarter.  Colin Doyle scored to close the gap to a goal, but the Knighthawks stretched the lead back to 2 goals and led 5-3 at the half.

The goaltending duel between Toronto’s Nick Rose and Rochester’s Matt Vinc continued in the third quarter.  The Knighthawks scored twice and held the Rock to just a goal in the frame as the home side led 7-4.

Rock forward Rob Hellyer scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter to once again close to within a goal.  From there, Rochester scored the next four goals, including three goals in a span of 45 seconds.  Toronto made it interesting late with three goals to make it 11-8, but Rochester scored an empty net goal to seal the victory.

The Rock will wrap up their 2013 regular season home schedule next Sunday, April 7th with Fan Appreciation Day.  One lucky fan in attendance will win a trip for two to Las Vegas courtesy of Adventure House Travel.  Also, fans will be able to purchase upper bowl tickets for just $7.  For the best ticket in town, visit www.torontorock.com or call 416-596-3075.
