Rock Sign 5 Free Agents

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of five unrestricted free agents. Defenders Patrick Miles and Connor Cole along with forwards Shawn Lantz, Lyndon Bunio and Seth Laidlaw have all signed one-year agreements, pending league approval.

“All five of these players have earned an opportunity to attend our camp and compete for a spot,” said Dawick. “All of these players have taken different paths to get to this point in their respective careers and now is their chance to make the most of it and turn some heads. We have a very deep camp roster and this will be a very competitive training camp.”

The 24-year old Miles is the lone member of the group with NLL experience having played eight games for the Swarm franchise in 2015. In those eight contests, the scrappy defender had five assists and picked up 34 loose balls. He was originally selected by the Swarm in the fifth round of the 2014 NLL Draft, 38th overall.

The Brampton, ON native has played his summer lacrosse for the MSL’s Oakville Rock (2014), WLA’s New Westminster Salmonbellies (2015-16) and the MSL’s Brampton Excelsiors (2017). Miles was a standout during his NCAA lacrosse career at New England College and was named NAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. His junior career began in Halton Hills with the Junior B Bulldogs in 2009 before playing the next four years with his hometown Brampton Junior A Excelsiors where he would become captain in his final two years.

Connor Cole and Shawn Lantz are a pair of Kitchener-Waterloo Braves that both graduated the Ontario junior ranks this summer. The offensive minded Lantz scored 13 goals and added 29 assists for 42 points in 20 games this summer. Cole, a hard-working defender, recorded three goals and an assist in 20 games in 2017 for the Braves and accumulated 47 penalty minutes.

Bunio, a Calgary, AB native, finished second in the Rocky Mountain Junior A Lacrosse League (RMLL) scoring race with 92 points (33+59) in 19 games this summer. He was a member of the Calgary Mountaineers team that turned some heads at the 2016 Minto Cup Canadian Junior A Lacrosse Championships, winning a pair of round robin games with wins over the Ontario champion Orangeville Northmen and BC champion Delta Islanders.

Laidlaw was a dominant player with the Halton Hills Junior B Bulldogs throughout his five-year junior career, amassing 294 points in just 77 games. The 24-year old from Norval, ON was a member of the 2010 Founders Cup Canadian championship team along with current Rock players Bradley Kri and Mikey MacDonald.

Toronto Rock training camp is slated to begin on Friday, November 3rd at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON. The Rock will play three exhibition games at the TRAC in November before beginning the regular season at Buffalo against the Bandits on Friday, December 8.
