Rock Sign Five Free Agents Ahead of Training Camp

Former Rock Draft Pick Colton Armitage Earns Another Opportunity

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of five unrestricted free agents to 3-year rookie contracts.  The signings make an already very deep training camp roster even deeper.

Colton Armitage, Owen Orpana, Connor Blondin, Aidan Saint, and Jack MacAlpine will join the ranks of training camp hopefuls that will begin chasing a roster spot on October 31 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville.

Colton Armitage is a left-handed shooting forward who was originally selected in the 5th round, 50th overall by the Rock in the 2024 NLL Draft.  Armitage attended Rock training camp that fall, but did not earn a roster spot leading into the 2024-25 NLL season.  The St. Catharines Jr. A Athletics star graduated from the junior ranks in 2025 and took the leap to Sr. A with Peterborough of the MSL in 2026.  After playing in almost half of the Lakers’ regular season games, he followed that up by appearing in 8 of their 10 postseason games and had at least a point in all but one playoff contest.  In the first round of the MSL playoffs, Peterborough faced the Oakville Rock which gave Toronto Rock HC Matt Sawyer a close look at the 22-year-old Armitage as he also serves as the bench boss of the summer Rock squad.

Owen Orpana, another left-handed shooting forward, just finished up his Jr. A lacrosse career with the Kitchener Kodiaks during the summer of 2026.  The 21-year-old from Rockwood, ON scored 13 goals and added 33 assists for 49 points in 19 total regular season and playoff games with the Kodiaks.  Prior to his final year of junior lacrosse competition, Orpana played the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Coquitlam Adanacs capturing back-to-back Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Lacrosse titles.

In Connor Blondin, the Rock bring another familiar face to training camp.  The big left-handed defender just finished his first season of Sr. A lacrosse with the Oakville Rock.  Originally from Oakville, ON, Blondin started his junior lacrosse career with the Halton Hills Jr. B Bulldogs.  His Jr. A rights were traded from the Oakville Jr. A Buzz to Brampton where he played for the Excelsiors.  In his final season of junior, he was dealt to the St. Catharines Athletics for a run at the Minto Cup with the 2025 hosts. The 22-year-old 6-foot-6 physical defender played collegiately at D2 Lincoln Memorial University.

Aidan Saint, a big left-handed defender, is another towering specimen measuring in at 6’5” and is a big body that certainly uses his immense size to his advantage.  The 25-year-old caught the eye of Sawyer this summer when Saint was playing for the MSL’s Owen Sound North Stars against the Oakville Rock.  He may not have been on many team’s radars, but the Rock coaching staff has a history of finding defenders and developing them into pros.

Yet another familiar face coming to camp is 24-year-old right-handed shooting forward Jack MacAlpine.  The Oakville Jr. A Buzz graduate has put up steady and consistent offensive numbers at every level he’s played at.  He played 17 total games, regular season and playoffs combined, for the Oakville Rock in each of the last two MSL seasons.  He scored 23 points in 2025 and increased that total to 28 in 2026.

The Toronto Rock will open training camp on Saturday, October 31 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville.  The exhibition schedule will be announced later this week.
