Ty English Signs 3-Year Agreement

2025 NLL Second Overall Pick Joins Rock Ahead of Championship Defence

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of Ty English to a 3-year agreement. The second overall selection in the 2025 NLL Draft joins the Rock as the club prepares to defend its 2026 NLL championship.

Ty will unite with his brother Sam who took an identical path to the NLL.  The elder English was also drafted second overall and following his selection in the 2024 NLL draft Sam decided to return to school and play a fifth season of NCAA Division I lacrosse at Syracuse.  Last fall Ty did the same, choosing to play a fifth season at the University of North Carolina before turning pro.  The brothers English are now set to play together at the NLL level, which if Sam’s NLL Playoff-MVP-winning season is any indication, Rock City should be very excited at what’s to come.

“We’re excited to bring a dynamic player like Ty into our group,” expressed Dawick.  “Much like his brother Sam, Ty is very capable of making strong contributions whether it be on defence, offence or in transition.  Some nights I’m sure we’ll see him as an impactful player in all three facets in the same game.”

The 24-year-old from Burlington, ON won the Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Championship with his hometown Blaze in 2023.  At the Minto Cup Championship tournament, English was named the MVP of the Minto Cup.

Ty is no stranger to the Rock family as he has played for Toronto Rock Head Coach Matt Sawyer prior to turning pro as a member of the Oakville Rock in Ontario’s Major Series Lacrosse circuit.  It’s not only brother Sam that’s part of the Rock at the NLL level, but their father Andrew is the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

At the collegiate level, English played his NCAA career at UNC was earned USILA Second Team All-America honours in 2026.  He also served as Team Captain in 2025 and 2026 with the Tar Heels.

The Toronto Rock will open training camp on Saturday, October 31 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville.
