Jr. NLL Day One Has Its Ups And Downs

Peewee Jr. Rock On The Brink

Oakville, ON – The seventh annual Jr. NLL Tournament is in full swing and there’s a lot on the line during Saturday’s Day 2. The final games of the round robin will determine who moves on to Sunday’s championship play downs.

The Jr. Rock Peewees find themselves in an 0-2 hole, losing both of their games on the opening day of competition. The Jr. Roughnecks got the better of the Jr. Rock by a score of 8-4 and that was followed by the Jr. Black Wolves defeating the Jr. Rock 11-6.

The Peewee Jr. Rock will need a three-way tie at 2-2 between themselves, Jr. Mammoth and Jr. Roughnecks in order to trigger some tiebreaker math that could see them advance to the semi-finals. However, the only thing they can control is the outcome of their two Saturday games, which both need to be wins.

It wasn’t easy for the Jr. Rock Bantams but they posted a pair of opening day victories. An 8-7 win over the Jr. Roughnecks and a 9-5 win over the Jr. Black Wolves have them sitting atop the Blue Division.

The Midget Jr. Rock started the day off with an OT thriller! The Jr. Rock had to score twice late just to force the extra frame and then scored the game winner with just 1:10 to play in OT. The second win of the day came in the form of a 10-6 triumph over the Jr. Mammoth.

Players on the Toronto Rock teams are selected from players that competed in the Rock Elite League in 2018-19. The new season for the Rock Elite League is just around the corner and registration is now open at torontorockac.com.

The Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth, Georgia Swarm, Halifax Thunderbirds, New England Black Wolves, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, San Diego Seals, Saskatchewan Rush and Toronto Rock will compete with over 500 players participating across Peewee, Bantam & Midget age levels. The teams will follow modified NLL playing rules in a safe and competitive environment. NLL players, coaches and staff will be on-hand all weekend, with some serving as Jr. NLL coaches, in addition to joining the youth players for an Outdoor Movie Night on Friday.
