Rock Defeat Mammoth 14-10

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Rock (7-3) defeated the Colorado Mammoth (2-7) by a score of 14-10 on Friday night at Air Canada Centre.

The Rock’s Blaine Manning opened the scoring for Toronto but Colorado answered that with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead.  Colin Doyle scored on the powerplay before the end of the opening 15 to draw the Rock to within a pair.

A back and forth second quarter saw the Rock eventually surge ahead 7-6 on a goal by Doyle.  With tallies from Blaine Manning and Kasey Beirnes, it was five straight goals for the Rock and a 9-6 lead at the half.

Colorado broke up that five-goal run in a hurry in the second half as they scored twice to claw right back into things.  Garrett Billings found his groove on the power play with a goal that kept the Mammoth at an arms length, but only for a moment as John Grant Jr. again closed the gap.  The Rock scored once more before the end of the frame to lead 11-9.

Adam Jones made it a one-goal game once again just 3:41 into the fourth quarter.  Toronto would again have the answer as Manning scored on the power play to put Toronto up 12-10.  Jesse Gamble’s second goal of the game with less than two minutes to play sealed the Rock win.  Gamble added his third of the game on a penalty shot in the final moments of the quarter.

Doyle led the Rock point parade with 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists).  Billings’ 7-point night (1 goal, 6 assists) moved him past Aaron Wilson into fifth spot on Toronto’s all-time scoring list with 338 points.

Toronto will hit the road next week for a game in Philadelphia against the Wings at 1pm at the Wells Fargo Center.  The Rock will be back at home on Sunday, March 24th against Edmonton at 3pm at Air Canada Centre.  For the best ticket in town, visit www.torontorock.com or call 416-596-3075.
