Rock Re-Sign Brandon Slade

ROCK RE-SIGN BRANDON SLADE

Toronto Defender Signs 2-Year Contract

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that defender Brandon Slade has re-signed with the club, inking a 2-year contract.

Slade developed into a jack-of-all-trades type of player last season for the Rock.  He is a defender first, but showed some versatility in being able to play out the front door and log minutes as an offensive player.  When called upon, Slade delivered in big moments.  The biggest of which being an overtime game-winning goal against Buffalo in a key late season matchup with the rival Bandits.

“We’re very happy to get him re-signed,” said Dawick.   “Brandon has proven he can do a lot of things and do a lot of things well.   We like to run him out the back door but he’s more than capable of running out the front and making an impact when needed.  He’s become a very valuable player in a short amount of time and we’re looking forward to him continuing to develop and play a bigger role as we move forward.”

The 24-year old from Orangeville, ON was originally signed by the Rock as an Unrestricted Free Agent leading into the 2018 season.  After suiting up for just 3 games in his first season, he dressed for all 18 games and scored 11 goals during the 2018-19 campaign.  Perhaps the most interesting stat through Slade’s 21 career regular season games is that he is yet to record an assist.  However, he’s been a bit more generous in the post-season, dishing out one assist to go along with one goal in two playoff games.

In addition to the Slade signing, the Rock have inked free-agent defender Ty Mikulik.  Also from Orangeville, ON, the 21-year old Mikulik was a member of the 2019 Minto Cup Canadian Jr A Champion Orangeville Northmen.  He also won the Founders Cup Canadian Jr B championship in 2016 and 2017 with the Orangeville Northmen.  At 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, the right-handed defender will bring his size and strength to Rock camp, looking to land a roster spot.

The signings are pending league approval.

The Toronto Rock will open training camp on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.
