Rock Re-Sign Stephan Leblanc

Toronto – Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson has announced the signing of forward Stephan Leblanc to a one-year contract.  Leblanc was the NLL’s rookie of the year in 2010 and returns for his fourth season in a Rock uniform.

“Stephan is the prototypical power forward in this league,” said Sanderson.  “He made an immediate impact when he entered the league, but I think he has teased us a bit over his first few seasons with just how good he is going to be.”

The 26-year old left-handed forward has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in his brief NLL career.  He has already played in two NLL championship games winning the title in 2011 and scoring the game-winning goal as Toronto defeated Washington 8-7 to claim their sixth NLL championship in franchise history.

“His play gave us the confidence to put him in important situations from day one,” explained Sanderson.  “With a championship already under his belt, he brings the experience and the winning pedigree with him that we really value within our organization.”

In just three seasons and 47 games played, Leblanc has scored 97 goals and added 126 assists for 223 points in his young career.  He led the team in regular season scoring in their championship season of 2011 with 76 points.  He’s proven himself as a playoff performer as well, leading the team in playoff scoring in 2010 as the Rock advanced to the NLL championship game.

Leblanc was selected by the Rock in the first round, 11th overall in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft.  Leblanc is an Ontario native but finished out his Junior A playing career in British Columbia playing alongside current Rock teammate Garrett Billings with the Burnaby Lakers.  In 2007, his final year of Junior A, he scored 74 points for the Lakers which placed him third overall in BCLA Junior A scoring.

The Rock have also signed defenceman Peter Rennie to a one-year agreement.  The 22-year old from Peterborough, ON was selected by the Rock in the third round, 26th overall in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft.  Rennie spent the entire 2012 season on Toronto’s practice roster.
