Rookie & Free Agent Camp This Weekend

Toronto – The Toronto Rock will hold a rookie and free agent training camp this weekend at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario.  The camp will feature several of the Rock’s recent draft selections as well as free agents who will all be looking for an invite to main camp, which begins on Saturday, November 30th.

The Rock have not held a rookie and free agent camp since the fall of 2010 leading up to the 2011 season.  That was also the last time Toronto hoisted the Champion’s Cup.

“We felt we needed to hold a rookie and free agent camp to get a look at a wider range of players,” said Rock Head Coach John Lovell.  “Competition for jobs starts this weekend and it is the beginning of us getting better as a team in order to compete for a championship.”

Four of the Toronto’s six 2013 NLL draft picks will participate in this weekend’s camp including 1st round selection Ethan O’Connor.  Other draft picks competing this weekend are Mike Woods, Alex Lubczuk and Eric Law.  Emerson Clark (currently playing hockey in the ECHL for Toledo) and Keegan Bal (currently finishing his schooling in England) will not be on the floor this weekend.

Rock top pick from the 2012 NLL draft Bradley Kri (2nd round) will also be vying for an invite to main camp after spending the entire 2013 season on the team’s practice roster.

“There are a lot of young players that are in a position to compete for a position on an NLL roster,” said Lovell.  “We are looking for players that can make us a better team regardless of their age and get this franchise back to an NLL championship.”

The rookie and free agent camp will run on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12noon.  The sessions are open to the public and media.
