Toronto –The Toronto Rock will open the upcoming 2011 season in front of a home crowd at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday January 8th against the Edmonton Rush.
The Rock vs. Rush game marks the opening weekend of the new season which also includes the remaining eight teams in the League also in action. The National Lacrosse League (NLL) released the entire 2011 schedule today which can be found online at www.nll.com.
Along with the Toronto Rock, the East Division consists of the Buffalo Bandits, Rochester Knighthawks, Boston Blazers and the Philadelphia Wings. The West Division includes the Edmonton Rush, Minnesota Swarm, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth and the Washington Stealth. Each club will play a 16 game regular season schedule with eight games at home. Playoff format will remain consistent as previous years with the top four teams in each division advancing to the playoffs.
Rock owner Jamie Dawick is pleased with the 2011 home schedule for Toronto fans.
“Kicking off the season against the Edmonton Rush at home is great,” says Dawick. “It’s a solid Canadian rivalry to get things going in 2011 and the rivalries continue throughout the season including a chance for us to host the NLL defending Champions on our home floor.”
The highly anticipated match-up between the Toronto Rock and the 2010 Champion Washington Stealth kicks off the last month of the regular season on Friday April 1st 2011. The Rock were defeated by the Stealth, 15-11 in the Championship game in Everett, Washington on May 15th last season.
“It will be great for our fans to see this particular match up and a great test for our team as the season winds down” Dawick added.
