2006 NLL Schedule Announced

The National Lacrosse League has released the 2006 regular season schedule Wednesday.

Pro lacrosse’s 20th season will begin on Dec. 30 with the Colorado Mammoth hosting the Philadelphia Wings. Gary Gait will make his debut as Head Coach behind the Mammoth bench after completing a 15-year Hall of Fame playing career.

Other highlights of the 2006 season include an early season rematch of last year’s championship game between the Arizona Sting and the Toronto Rock on January 7. The Rock will look for an unprecedented sixth championship in franchise history.

The expansion Edmonton Rush will make their debut as they host the San Jose Stealth on January 6. The expansion Portland LumberJax will make their debut on the road when they travel to Arizona on Friday, January 13. The LumberJax home opener will be Saturday, January 21 vs. the Colorado Mammoth.

The 2006 All-Star Game weekend festivities will include the inaugural NLL Hall of Fame Game. The Hall of Fame Game will feature the Toronto Rock hosting the Philadelphia Wings on Friday, February 24. The All-Star Game will be played the following afternoon on Saturday, February 25 in Toronto. The inaugural Hall of Fame class of Les Bartley, Russ Cline, Chris Fritz, Gary Gait, and Paul Gait will be inducted during the weekend.

The regular season schedule consists of 88 games, to be played over sixteen weekends. Each of the league’s eleven teams will play sixteen regular season games, eight home and eight away. The regular season begins on December 30 and concludes on April 15, with the Champion’s Cup Playoffs to follow.
