Toronto – The Toronto Rock will raise their sixth championship banner to the rafters at Air Canada Centre on Sunday, January 8 when the Calgary Roughnecks will be in town. The All-Canadian matchup will be the only game on the opening weekend of National Lacrosse League action.
The National Lacrosse League announced the entire 2012 regular season schedule today and the complete schedule can now be found at www.nll.com.
The Toronto Rock will play in the East Division along with the Buffalo Bandits, Rochester Knighthawks and Philadelphia Wings. The West Division remains unchanged with the Washington Stealth, Calgary Roughnecks, Edmonton Rush, Colorado Mammoth and Minnesota Swarm. Each club will play a 16-game regular season schedule.
Amidst a five-week home stand, on Saturday March 3, the Rock will host the Washington Stealth in a re-match of the 2011 NLL Championship Game. The Rock were victorious in last season’s final as they defeated Washington 8-7 in front of almost 15,000 fans. The 2011 Rock championship win also avenged a loss in the 2010 final against the same Stealth.
Other key matchups include the rebuilt Edmonton Rush facing the Rock at Air Canada Centre on Saturday, April 7 as well as the game with the always feisty, Buffalo Bandits on Friday, March 16.
The 2012 Playoffs will begin on the weekend of May 5th. An announcement regarding the league’s playoff format will be forthcoming at a later date.
“The schedule gives us a great chance to get out ahead of the pack by the midway point of the season if we can capitalize on all the home games,” said Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick who saw his Rock go 7-1 at home in 2011. “We now have two extra west coast swings but there’s no easy games to be found anywhere on the schedule.”
