BILL HOSTRAWSER SIGNS 1-YEAR EXTENSION

Steady Defender Returns For 8th Season In Toronto

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock General Manager Jamie Dawick announced today that defender Bill Hostrawser has agreed to a 1-year contract extension.  The signing is pending league approval.

“He’s the ultimate teammate and he has become one of our most reliable defenders,” said Dawick. “He’s a leader for us and different guys lead in different ways.  He always knows what to say, no matter the situation.  Whether it’s to fire up the guys before the game or break the tension to keep the guys loose, he’s the glue guy that keeps the room together and it’s invaluable.  I can’t see him playing for any other team.”

Originally selected by Vancouver in the 2nd Round, 12th overall in the 2012 NLL Draft, Hostrawser only played parts of two seasons with the franchise before being dealt to Toronto in 2014 for a pair of late round draft picks.  Since then, he has been a mainstay in the Rock lineup.

“I’m excited to be back with the group for another year,” said Hostrawser.  “It’s just a great group of guys, great ownership, great fan base, there’s nothing bad to say about playing in Toronto and being a Toronto Rock.”

Statistically speaking, the 28-year old was on pace to shatter his loose ball and caused turnover career-highs of 112 and 17 respectively, established in 18-19.  Through 11 games in the 19-20 season, he had 91 loose balls and 14 caused turnovers which put him on pace for 149 loose balls and 23 caused turnovers.

“I think that’s just having good teammates,” said the always humble Hostrawser when asked about his recent statistical surge.  “As you get older, you learn something new every year.  You also have to work a little harder the older you get to keep up with the young guys coming into the league.”

The Rock have also tendered qualifying offers to Jason Noble, Tom Schreiber and Johnny Powless.  Had the team not qualified the three players prior to the end of the month, they would have each become restricted free agents on Aug. 1.

Stay tuned to the Rock’s social media channels and torontorock.com as more signings are announced throughout the summer months.

The next major date on the NLL’s summer calendar is the opening of the free agent signing period on Aug. 1.
