BOB WATSON NAMED NLL PLAYER OF THE MONTH

TORONTO – The National Lacrosse League (NLL) has named Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson Overall Player of the Month for March 2009.

Toronto’s starting goaltender was instrumental in the Rock’s 3-1 March record. When the Rock faced the Boston Blazers on March 14th Watson turned away 47 of 55 shots, denying Boston’s sudden death overtime attempts to secure the Toronto Rock win.

Last week Watson was named NLL Overall Player of the Week for his contribution to the team’s dominating home win over the Rochester Knighthawks on March 21, 2009. Leading his team to victory, Watson allowed the Knighthawks only ten goals, saving 38 of 48 shots in the 16-10 win at the Air Canada Centre.

Watson was at the helm of Toronto’s success last weekend stopping 41 of 51 shots when the Rock upset the West Division’s first place Calgary Roughnecks 12-10 on Friday night.

Watson saved 129 out of the 162 shots he faced, for a save percentage of 79.6% and with three regular season games remaining Watson sits third in the league for saves with 414.

Rhys Duch of the San Jose Stealth was named March’s Rookie of the Month. Duch, with 70 points on the season (24 Goals, 46 Assists) is now within 12 points of the league record for points in a rookie year.  The record is held by Gavin Prout, who had an 82-point season in his rookie year of 2002.

Watson and theToronto Rock are back in action tomorrow as they host the Boston Blazers. Ball drop is 7:30
