BUFFALO EDGES ROCK 8-6

Toronto Loses Fourth Straight Road Game

Buffalo, NY – Nick Rose was outstanding between the pipes, making 53 saves, but it wasn’t enough on Saturday night in Buffalo, NY as the Toronto Rock (8-5) fell by a score of 8-6 to the East Division leading Buffalo Bandits (12-3). The loss was the Rock’s fourth straight on the road.

After last night’s 14-9 loss to Georgia, Rock Head Coach stressed that a good effort was needed tonight in order to restore some of his team’s confidence, Rose feels that despite the loss it may have been mission accomplished.

“Yeah, I think so,” said Rose when asked if the effort was there for his club tonight. “I felt good out there and I hope that translates into some good results down the stretch. We have a big week coming up with Philly back at home next Saturday night, so we need to bounce back and get a positive result.”

The Rock couldn’t have asked for a better start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. What may have been more impressive was the Rock’s defence and goaltending as Rose stopped all 13 shots he faced and didn’t allow the Bandits’ faithful to give them any home floor advantage.

It was a complete reversal on the score sheet in the second quarter with the Rock unable to score. Buffalo scored four straight goals to tie the game. One thing that was consistent was the play of Rose in the Rock goal; making 14 saves on 18 shots.

Scoring continued to be at a premium in the third frame. The Bandits scored early and then appeared to score a second goal right away but the Rock bench challenged the good goal call and the ruling on the floor was overturned, taking away Buffalo’s momentum. The Bandits scored once more to make it six straight and give themselves a 6-4 lead heading to the final quarter.

Toronto opened the fourth quarter scoring when Johnny Powless buried a slick shot by Matt Vinc in the Buffalo net. Buffalo answered back to restore their two-goal lead. That sequence repeated itself again and it was enough for the Bandits to hang on for the win.

Rock goal scorers were Powless, Challen Rogers, Bill Hostrawser, Brandon Slade with one each and Tom Schreiber with a pair.

The Rock’s busy schedule continues, back home in Rock City next Saturday night when they host the Philadelphia Wings at Scotiabank Arena. The game will be the third and final regular season matchup between the two clubs. Toronto will be looking to sweep the season series with a win having won the first two head-to-head meetings back in January.
