FAN CHOICE AWARD WINNERS

The Fans Have Spoken

Oakville, ON – Rock City was invited to participate in the Annual Rock Fan Choice Awards over the last four days to select award winners in several different categories.  Just for voting, fans also had the chance to win some fantastic prizes including a pair of 2020-21 Top Shelf Season Memberships!

There was a clear favourite for MVP going into the voting process and to no one’s surprise, well at least not to the 37 percent that voted for him, Rob Hellyer was the Fan’s Choice for the Rock’s Most Valuable Player.  When the chips were down and the Rock were ravaged by injuries, the longest tenured member of the Rock stepped up and won the team games this year.  That’s how you define most valuable.  Runners-up were Dan Dawson with 24 percent of the votes and Nick Rose and Challen Rogers tied with 14 percent each of the votes.

When fans had the chance to vote for Hellyer for the team’s Offensive Player of the Year, 44 percent of them took advantage of the opportunity.  His 32 goals in just 11 games put him on pace for a career high and placed him second overall in the NLL.  Runners-up were Dawson with 14 percent of the vote and Dan Craig with 13 percent.

Rock City’s opinion was divided up a little more than a year ago when it came to selecting the Defensive Player of the Year.  Last year, Rogers secured 23 percent of the votes but finished second to Brad Kri who had 30 percent of the votes.  This year, Rogers claimed the DPOY crown with 22 percent of the votes.  Kri was second with 19 percent, and Rock newcomer David Brock made a big impression on fans in his first season in Toronto, grabbing 14 percent of the votes.

The Rock had a number of first-year players make significant impacts this season.  There was little doubt that “The Flash” Scott Dominey would garner the bulk of the votes and he did just that with 45 percent of fans steering in his direction in the Rookie of the Year balloting.  Zach Manns earned 25 percent of the votes while Josh Jubenville had 12 percent.

Lastly, the Fan Favourite Award voting spoke once again to the Rock’s deep roster with 23 different players receiving votes.  Hellyer’s 12 percent of the votes was enough to win him the award.  Runners-up were none other than rookie sensation Dominey and goaltender Nick Rose.

All fans that voted were entered to win some great prizes.
