Latrell Harris Agrees To 1-Year Deal

LATRELL HARRIS AGREES TO 1-YEAR DEAL

Signing Season Begins

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that defender Latrell Harris has agreed to a 1-year contract extension.  The 23-year old native of St. Catharines, ON is a key piece of the Rock’s superstar laden defensive group.

The signing is pending league approval.

“We have basically come to the same agreement for the 21-22 season as we had in place for last season,” said Dawick.  “This is a big year for Latrell.  He has the opportunity to prove to us that he’s the player we believe he is and that he believes he is.  Make no mistake, he is a big part of this team today and well into the future.”

By the time the 21-22 NLL season begins, Harris will have enjoyed another full year of getting healthy after having surgery in March of 2020 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.  His 19-20 season was shut down after just one game and is now, without a doubt, in the best shape of his career.

Last summer, Harris estimated that it had been approximately two years since he had been fully healthy.  An older, more mature and completely healthy Harris should provide Rock City with a look at the best version of Harris we’ve ever seen.

“I’ve been watchful of Latrell during the extended time off,” explained Dawick.  “I have seen the work he’s putting in, working out, and gearing up for the summer professional outdoor season.  He’s as healthy as he’s ever been as a pro and expectations for the coming NLL season are high.”

This summer, Harris will attempt to ply his trade in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) with Archers LC, the same club Rock superstar Tom Schreiber suits up for.  Officially listed as a short-stick defensive midfielder on the Archers training camp roster, Harris also has the ability to pick up the long pole as he did for Team Canada at the 2018 World Field Lacrosse Championships.

A product of the St. Catharines Athletics’ minor and Junior A programs, Harris was the definition of a rookie phenom in 2017.  The Rock were able to grab Harris in the second round with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NLL Draft.  As a rookie, in the truest sense, he dressed for all 18 regular season games and the Rock’s two playoff contests in 2017.  He also earned an All-Rookie Team selection at season’s end.

In each of his three full NLL seasons, he picked up over 100 loose balls and posted a career-high of 114 in 18-19.  His athleticism has also led to him being one of the best in the NLL at forcing turnovers with a career-high 34 caused turnovers, also in 18-19.

The date for the NLL’s Expansion Draft will be announced shortly with each team’s protected list being announced soon.  Following that, the next major date on the NLL’s summer calendar is the opening of the free agent signing period on Aug. 1.
