Signing Season Begins
Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that defender Latrell Harris has agreed to a 2-year contract extension. The 24-year-old native of St. Catharines, ON has begun to establish himself as one of the league’s top defenders after being named a 2nd Team All-League selection last season.
The signing is pending league approval.
“We are thrilled to have Latrell back,” said Dawick. “The reality is, we would have liked to sign him to a longer deal, but with some CBA uncertainty, we’re going to hold off on a longer deal. Latrell is truly on the verge of being one of the best defenders in the NLL. I don’t see him playing anywhere else during his entire career.”
After battling through some injuries prior to the pandemic break, playing in just one game in the 2019-20 season, and in total being away from box lacrosse for two years, Harris returned last season and looked better than ever. He’s been a go-to-guy on the Rock’s back end since coming into the league as an 18-year-old rookie in 2017. He’s a homegrown talent, originally selected in the 2nd round of the 2016 NLL Draft, 12th overall by the Rock.
“I’m beyond happy with the contract agreement,” said Harris. “I love this organization, I’m proud to be a Toronto Rock, this is home. And there’s no place I’d rather be than right here at home!”
A graduate of the St. Catharines Athletics’ minor and Junior A programs, the ceiling for Harris is still very high. He just keeps getting better. In 21-22, he was just six caused turnovers shy of his career-best, recording 28 CTOs in just 14 games played. His career-high is 34 over the course of a full 18 games. He also equaled his career-high with 114 loose balls last season, also in four less games.

The next major date on the NLL’s summer calendar is the opening of the free agent signing period on Aug. 1.
