Main Event For Dawick Ends On Day 2

Toronto – Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick was eliminated from competition at the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event late on Day 2A at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After a roller coaster ride on Day 1A on Saturday, Tuesday’s Day 2A provided much of the same drama for Dawick.  After beginning the day with 32,475 chips, his stack shrunk to below 20,000 before making some big strides and giving himself some breathing room at almost 60,000 chips.

“The first level of the day started really slowly,” said Dawick. “The second level really turned around.  I managed to triple up to 60K after being down to 20K.  It was the start I was looking for.”

After seeing his stack shrink once again over the next two levels, and with only 16 big blinds remaining and an hour of play to go, the Rock Owner needed to find a way to double up before the end of the night.

“I had about 18K left with about an hour to go,” explained Dawick. “I had to look for a spot as I wasn’t coming back the next day with only 15K, although I could have made it through to day 3.  It was the right move at the time.  A loose player at the table was on the button and raised and had a hand.  I shoved with King-10 of clubs.  I ran into Ace-King suited and an Ace came on the flop. There was a King on the river, but it was already over.”

The second day of the Main Event also provided Dawick with the opportunity to play with a celebrity for much of the day.  Actor Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men, Casino) was seated at the same table as Dawick for over 3 hours on Tuesday.

“I was moved to Kevin Pollak’s table and he was really entertaining,” said Dawick who was moved to a different table several times during the day.  “He was a real funny guy.  I just sat and listened, he’s got great stories and he’s a good player.  I was impressed with the way he played and I wish him the best of luck.”

Day 3 of the World Series of Poker Main Event will begin on Thursday at 3pm ET as the field comes together for the first time in the tournament with 1756 players still vying for the title.
