Mitch de Snoo Signs 3-Year Contract Extension

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Returns

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that reigning NLL Defensive Player of the Year Mitch de Snoo has agreed to a 3-year contract extension.  The veteran defender was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Monday had he not re-signed with the club.

The signing is pending league approval.

“Mitch is a crucially important piece of this team,” said Dawick.  “We made a significant investment to acquire Mitch, and he came in and did everything we expected and even a little bit more.  He was certainly deserving of being recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year.  I envision him finishing his career here, he’s one of the cornerstones of our defence.  I’m happy to get this done.”

The 29-year-old native of Oshawa, ON was acquired in July of 2020 from the Buffalo Bandits in a blockbuster trade.  After his debut was delayed by the pandemic, de Snoo arrived on the scene for the 21-22 season and was nothing short of terrific, also earning All-League First Team honours.

“I’m thrilled be back with the Rock for the long term,” said de Snoo.  “Joining the team for the first time last season, I was blown away with this group’s talent from top to bottom. I am excited to be back with a group that will only continue to improve, and I expect to be competing for an NLL championship every season that I’m here.”

He obliterated his previous career highs in loose balls with 185, which was 54 better than the 131 he scooped up in 2019 in Buffalo.  He also had a new career-best 39 caused turnovers, 13 better than his rookie season of 2016 with the Bandits.  His CTO numbers were tied for second best in the league alongside Rock teammate Brad Kri and his LB totals were good for fifth in the NLL.

The in-your-face force on the back end also showed he could chip in offensively, setting new career-highs with 8 goals, 12 assists and 20 points.

With the NLL and NLLPA only recently agreeing to a new CBA, the NLL’s free agency period will now commence on Monday after originally being scheduled to begin on August 1.
