Reinholdt & Magnuson Re-Sign

Dawick Continues To Lock Up Young Core

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the re-signing of defender Jordan Magnuson and forward Reid Reinholdt to three-year agreements.

The incredibly deep Rock draft class of 2016 produced several players that played pivotal roles last season and was rounded out by Magnuson who was selected in the third round, 23rd overall. He caught the eye of the Rock scouting staff at the 2016 Minto Cup Canadian Junior A lacrosse championship after playing a major role in the Coquitlam Adanacs knocking off the Orangeville Northmen for the national championship.

Following a strong training camp, Magnuson found himself on the practice roster after final rosters were submitted, however just prior to the Rock’s season opener in Rochester, the Rock staff made the call to move him to the active roster. He played in the season opener and played in all but one game (due to personal reasons) in his rookie season. The 21-year old from Coquitlam, BC scored a goal in his first NLL game and finished the season with two goals and five assists for seven points along with 85 loose balls. He also won 44 percent of his faceoffs, serving as the Rock’s secondary drawman behind Bradley Kri.

“There aren’t many players that are drafted in the third round that can come in and play the way Jordan did last season,” said Dawick. “He earned his spot, and was a pleasant surprise that kept getting better as the season went along. He became a solid option for us out the back door, moved the ball in transition, took faceoffs, there’s a lot to his game. He’s going to grow as a player and we’re excited about the upward trajectory we saw his progress take in year one.”

Reinholdt went undrafted at the 2015 NLL Draft and went unsigned during the following season. However, it was once again a western scouting trip by Rock assistant GM Josh Sanderson that put Reinholdt on the Rock’s radar during the summer of 2016. The Pitt Meadows, BC native played his NCAA lacrosse at Limestone College and played his junior “A” lacrosse for the Coquitlam Adanacs.

As an unrestricted free agent coming into training camp, a player doesn’t have a very big window of opportunity to prove himself. Reinholdt made the best of his chance in the pre-season and found himself on the practice roster. From there, he made his debut on the active roster on January 14 against Saskatchewan and scored a goal and added two assists.

And score he would throughout the rest of the season. He appeared in 12 regular season games, scoring at least one goal in 11 of them to finish the season with 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points. His 20 goals placed him third on the team, tied with Stephan Leblanc who played in three more games than the rookie.

“Reid was a bit of an unknown entity to us coming into training camp,” explained Dawick. “He’s continuing his education at Western University, so everything lined up well for both parties. He made the most of his opportunity last season and became a key contributor to the left side of our offence. Much like Jordan, he was a very pleasant surprise. By the end of last season, he was in the number two lefty spot. Bringing in (Adam) Jones changes that, but we are confident he will continue to develop and fight for that same kind of playing time he earned as last season moved along.”
