ROCK ACQUIRE DEFENDER KYLE ROSS

The Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club has acquired restricted free agent Kyle Ross from the Calgary Roughnecks.

“One of the things that we needed to address was finding more grit for our backend,” said Rock general manager and assistant defensive coach Terry Sanderson. “We want to make it a bit tougher for teams to play us.

“He’s a tough guy who can run the floor for our club.”

Ross was part of the August 16, 2010 trade that saw him, Daryl Veltman and Jon Harnett leave the Boston Blazers for the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for all-star Josh Sanderson.

In his four seasons in the NLL, Ross has played in 47 games, recording nine goals, 26 assists and scooping 256 loose balls.

“In Boston, Ross played on their special teams, he was a looseball guy, and would protect in man-down situations. He is going to do that for us, as well. We’re adding another player to our way of doing things in Toronto.”

Ross began his professional lacrosse career with the Minnesota Swarm in 2007 before being picked up by the Blazers in their expansion draft for the 2009 season.
