Denver, CO – Following morning shoot around Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick announced a series of roster moves leading into tonight’s game against the Colorado Mammoth, most notably that defender Justin Martin has been moved to the Season Ending Injured Reserve List.
The speedy Rock defender was injured during the pursuit of a loose ball off a second quarter faceoff in last Saturday’s win over the Oshawa FireWolves. He left the game and did not return. In the days following the game, Martin underwent further testing and Rock medical staff determined the lower body injury would sideline him for the remainder of the season.
The injuries didn’t stop piling up there for the Rock, as on Tuesday night at the team’s weekly practice session, defender Chris Weier suffered an upper body injury that will keep him out of the lineup for tonight’s game and he has been moved to the Injured Reserve List. There is no firm timeline for Weier’s return to the lineup. The Niagara-on-the-Lake native is enjoying his best season as a pro and was a huge piece of the defensive puzzle that locked down last weekend’s home win.
Moving to the Active Roster is Rock super rookie Sam English who could provide a big boost to the Rock defence and transition game. English will be a game time decision, but he will be available to Rock Head Coach Matt Sawyer if he’s ready to go.
Additionally, Rock defender Lucas Hucal has been moved from the Practice Roster to the Active Roster. Hucal, who was signed as a free agent prior to training camp, has yet to see game action this season.
In the final roster move of the day, the Rock removed the Practice Player tag from Jake Darlison and maintained him on the Active Roster. The move frees up a Practice Roster spot to allow the Rock to sign an additional player amid the current rash of injuries if needed.
Tonight’s game against the Colorado Mammoth is a 9:30pm ET start, and fans can watch live on NLL+ for free.
