Rock Open Preseason With A 10-8 Win Over Rush
Richmond and English Impressive In Debuts
Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock opened the NLL preseason with a 10-8 win over the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville. The building was buzzing as Rock City showed up to check out a pair of elite level prospects that were pulling on a Rock jersey for the first time in game action.
Ty English (2025) and Silas Richmond (2026) were drafted second overall in successive NLL Drafts and played their first exhibition game with the confidence of a multi-year veteran.
“It felt great to out there with guys and the fans really showed up tonight so that was empowering for us,” said Richmond. “I’m just excited to get to Hamilton and play in the big arena in front of them.”
Richmond scored twice and added an assist while his fellow first year pro English scored a goal and added four assists for a five-point night. English played both ends of the floor, playing defence in the first half and shifting to a front door offensive role in the second half.
“It was definitely a wakeup call playing on the offensive end,” explained English. “I haven’t played a box lacrosse game in over a year. Vets like Craiger, and Josh, and guys on the bench, if it wasn’t for them, I would have been a little lost out there.”
Ty wasn’t the only English to appear on the gamesheet as his older brother, and 2026 NLL Finals MVP, Sam scored a pair of goals, one of which was setup by Ty.
In the cage, Troy Holowchuk and Steven Orleman split the duties each playing a half and each allowing four goals over their 30 minutes of work.
The Rock will resume training camp on Tuesday night at the TRAC and will host the San Diego Seals next Saturday night at 7pm.
