Rock Sign Trio Prior To Free Agency Freeze

Latrell Harris, Bill Hostrawser, and Corey Small re-sign

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick announced that he has signed Latrell Harris, Bill Hostrawser, and Corey Small to new contracts and all three players will remain with the Rock.

Latrell Harris has agreed to a 3-year deal.  The 2023 NLL Defensive Player of the Year did not play for the Rock last season after suffering a knee injury while playing in the Premier Lacrosse League last summer.  Recently, Harris was a full participant at Team Canada tryouts for the upcoming World Indoor Lacrosse Championships and was named to the 23-man roster for the September event in Utica, NY.

Veteran Bill Hostrawser agreed to a 1-year deal and will return to the Rock for an eleventh season.  A gritty, hard-nosed defender that leads both on and off the floor.  He’s one of the best teammates in the game and is a true heart and soul type of player.  The 32-year-old hit a career high in Caused Turnovers (CTO) last season with 25.

Sharp shooting forward Corey Small also signed a 1-year agreement to return to the Rock.  His 38 and 40-goal campaigns in Toronto are the second and third best single-season totals of his 13-year NLL career.  The 37-year-old Small is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to be one of the best pure goal scorers in the NLL.

On Monday of this week, the NLL announced a change in the Free Agency timeline that has essentially put a freeze on most transactions including trades and the signing of Free Agents until the end of August.  Below is the NLL statement:

The National Lacrosse League announced today it is moving the start of free agency from Thursday, August 1 to Thursday, August 29. As means of additional clarity surrounding this calendar shift and its accompanying considerations: (1) The deadline for Qualifying Offers (QO & QO+) and Franchise Player designations shall remain July 31; (2) Beginning August 1, Clubs may not contact or communicate with RFA’s or UFA’s, and trades shall not be permitted; (3) Clubs may sign their own players who are ineligible for free agency (including those who received a QO+); (4) The Free Agency period shall begin August 29 at 12:00 AM ET and the resumption of permitted trades shall also be August 29 at 12:00 AM ET.
