Rock Sign Troy Holowchuk And 2020 Draft Picks

ROCK SIGN TROY HOLOWCHUK AND 2020 DRAFT PICKS

Toronto Continues To Lock Up Players

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today the signing of goaltender Troy Holowchuk and five of the team’s 2020 NLL Draft Picks to one-year contracts.  The signings are pending league approval.

The fruits of the 2020 NLL Draft have had an extra year to ripen as each of those players selected normally would have already attended a training camp and either stuck with the club or been released.  The pandemic and cancellation of the 2020-21 season has allowed these athletes to physically mature and come into what will be their first camp a bit bigger and a bit stronger.

Phil Mazzuca (3rd round, 46th overall), Chris Weier (4th round, 62nd overall), Curtis Romanchych (4th round, 67th overall), Scott Del Zotto (5th round, 77th overall), Daniel Balawejder (6th round, 90th overall) make up the list of draft picks that were signed.  The Rock’s top pick TD Ierlan (2nd Round, 30th overall) remains unsigned while toiling in the PLL this summer.

Holowchuck spent the 19-20 season on the team’s practice roster.  The 21-year old from St. Catharines, ON is the third piece of the Rock’s incredible goaltending trio that boasts Nick Rose and Riley Hutchcraft.

The Toronto Rock home opener will be Saturday, December 4 against the Albany FireWolves at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre, the new home of the Rock.  Fans can sign up for the Rock Insider Newsletter at torontorock.com/rockinsider for exclusive access to the Home Opener ticket pre-sale which begins on Tuesday, July 27.
