Sheldon Burns Agrees To 1-Year Deal

SHELDON BURNS AGREES TO 1-YEAR DEAL

Veteran Defender Eyes A Deep Playoff Run

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that veteran defender Sheldon Burns has agreed to a one-year contract.  The signing is pending league approval.

“Sheldon’s been a Toronto Rock for a few years now and he knows what we expect of him and he’s been able to deliver,” said Dawick. “He was having a strong season in 19-20 when things were cut short.  He really understands his role and going forward just has to continue along that path he set out with his performance the last time we played.  We’re excited to have Sheldon continue in a Toronto Rock uniform.”

Through his time with the Rock, the 29-year old defender has become a very important part of the team’s defence.  He’s a steady defender who can also push the ball in transition and make plays when the opportunity arises.  He can also mix it up with the best of them as he’s added an element of sandpaper to his game that includes physical play and toughness.

The 21-22 NLL season will provide Burns with an opportunity to hit a major career milestone, 100 NLL games played.  With 84 games under his belt and 79 career points, he’s just shy of being a point per game defender.

“It goes without saying that this was a long time coming and we can’t wait for the opening weekend in December,” an excited Burns said about returning to play.  “The guys have been working hard in the offseason, myself included, for this moment.  Come out and support, it’s going to be a great season and we guarantee we are going to do everything it takes to take this team to the next level this season.”

Burns was acquired by the Rock in a blockbuster trade that sent Stephan Leblanc to the New England Black Wolves back in December of 2017.  When he first hit the floor with the Rock, he went on an unprecedented scoring spree, potting six goals in his first four games.  Big numbers for a defender.

We are only days away from the beginning of the free agency signing period that opens on August 1.  Stay tuned to the Rock’s social media channels for the latest player signings.
