Rock Begin Season On The Road December 8, Home Opener On December 16
Oakville, ON – The National Lacrosse League season will begin on the second week of December and the Rock will open their 2017-18 season, 21 days earlier than they did a year ago. Toronto will travel to Buffalo to face the Bandits on Friday, December 8th as the Rock begins its 20th Anniversary season against their biggest rivals.
Rock fans won’t have to wait long to see their team on home turf. Toronto’s home opener is slated for Saturday, December 16th against the Saskatchewan Rush at Air Canada Centre. This will be the second consecutive season the Rock will host the Rush in their home opener. A win over the West Division powerhouse in last year’s first game at the ACC was the springboard to the Rock’s early season success. The matchup will also mark the first game for the Rock’s major off-season acquisition Adam Jones against his former team.
“We are very excited about this year’s schedule, Christmas will come early this year for Rock fans,” said Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick, referencing the earlier start to the season. “Beginning the season three weeks earlier has alleviated any back-to-back games where we would have to play at home one night, followed by a road game the next night or vice versa. The schedule is also very fan friendly with a lot of Saturdays and there are only two occasions where we play at home on consecutive weekends.
Other games to circle on the schedule include the lone regular season visit from the NLL champion, Georgia Swarm on Saturday, March 3rd. The Swarm eliminated the Rock in two games in last spring’s East Division Final en route to winning their first Champion’s Cup. In addition to the All-Canadian matchup in the home opener against Saskatchewan, the Rock will welcome their western foes, the Calgary Roughnecks, to Air Canada Centre on Saturday, February 3rd.
