VIDEO: Rock Present Cheque To Canadian Forces

Toronto – Recently, Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick along with Rock players Blaine Manning and Patrick Merrill presented a cheque for $33,686 to the Canadian Forces Military Families Fund.

Fundraising ran on various platforms including an online auction and a live jersey auction on the floor following a game against Philadelphia during the 2012 season at Air Canada Centre.

“I’m quite proud that we raised the money and we’re putting it towards such a great cause,” said Dawick.

The live auction of the game-worn Rock jerseys produced a spike in dollars raised compared to previous seasons when the team auctioned off the game-worn jerseys online.  The successful bidders had the chance to get their jersey signed and were also able to meet the player one-on-one.  The live auction raised over $18,000 alone towards the fundraising total.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment donated one dollar towards the fundraising efforts for every ticket sold.  The lacrosse club also sold raffle tickets for the game-worn and game-issued autographed helmets worn during the charity game back in March.

“This is a very important day for us with the Rock raising over thirty-three thousand dollars,” said Canadian Forces Director General Commodore Mark Watson.  “It gives us additional flexibility, it’s a sizable donation and we’re very appreciative for all their support.”

Previously, the Toronto Rock and Sunnybrook Foundation teamed up to “Black Out Breast Cancer” in both 2010 and 2011.  The Rock were able to raise in excess of $65,000 for Sunnybrook Foundation and the team will have an Examination Room named in their honour at the new Sunnybrook BreastCancer Centre slated to open in the spring of 2013.
