Welcome Back Johnny Powless

Big Piece Of Rock Offence Signs 1-Year Agreement

Oakville, ON – With training camp underway, Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that forward Johnny Powless has agreed to a one-year contract.  The signing is pending league approval.

The veteran of eight NLL seasons scored 23 goals and 44 points in his first season in Toronto in 2018-19.  Last year, Powless led the team with eight power play goals and in year two, Dawick hopes those totals will grow.

“This is home now for Johnny,” said Dawick.  “He’s had a few stops around the NLL in his career, but we’ve seen that once Johnny finds that comfort level within an offence, the sky is the limit.  With the core of our offence returning and the addition of Dan Dawson, we really feel like Johnny and our team are set up for success.”

There is perhaps a little bit of under the radar chemistry that may exist between Dawson and Powless.  The duo last played together in 2014 with the Rochester Knighthawks, a season that ended with a third consecutive NLL championship for Powless.  That season also saw Dawson assist on 40 percent of the 30 regular season goals tallied by Powless.

In 130 career games, the 26-year old from Six Nations, ON has scored 182 goals, 211 assists and 393 points.  In his eight seasons, he’s topped the 20-goal mark in six of those campaigns, and twice scored 30 or more with a career-high 35 goals coming in 2016 with Georgia.

The Toronto Rock opened training camp at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON over the weekend.  The team’s first exhibition scrimmage will be next Saturday, November 9 against the Colorado Mammoth at 7pm ET at the TRAC.
