What to watch for vs. Halifax Thunderbirds

Rock Playing For Pride

Mississauga, ON – The Toronto Rock (5-11) will be playing for pride tonight when they face the Halifax Thunderbirds (10-7) at Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga.  The Rock could play the role of spoilers as the Thunderbirds need a win to have a chance to host a first round home playoff game, pending results of several other games on this weekend’s schedule.

Fans can watch the game vs. Halifax at 7:00pm ET on TSN and on TSN’s digital platform TSN+ via TSN.ca and the TSN App as well as ESPN+.  To stream the game on TSN+ or ESPN+, a paid subscription is required.

Here’s what to watch for in Friday’s matchup.

  • Following morning shoot around, the Rock placed forward Dan Craig on the Injured Reserve List with a lower body injury that he’s been playing through for weeks. Gavin Thibeault has been placed on the Active Roster from the Practice Roster.
  • Last time out, the Rock defeated the Thunderbirds in Halifax by a score of 15-12. It was the first game for the Rock following the trades of Nick Rose, Mitch de Snoo, Chris Corbeil, and Tyler Hendrycks.  It was the first NLL start for Rock goaltender Troy Holowchuk and he delivered a win.
  • Josh Dawick (38) and Chris Boushy (32) are both within reach of joining the Rock’s 40-goal club. Dawick needs just two, and Boushy seems due for a massive game.  The Rock have only had two 40-goal scorers in the same season twice.  Corey Small (40) and Tom Schreiber (48) did it in 2023, while Colin Doyle (42) and Aaron Wilson (41) achieved the feat together in 2005.
  • After last weekend’s results, the Rock have locked in the first and second overall picks in the draft as they own their own pick and Las Vegas’ first rounder this year. The Rock also own the Philadelphia Wings’ first rounder and if things go “well” for the Rock, they could end the weekend with the top 3 picks in the 2025 NLL Draft.
  • INJURY REPORT: Tom Schreiber (lower body), and TD Ierlan (upper body) are all on the IR. Dan Craig joined Tom and TD on the IR earlier today.
  • The Rock will wrap up their regular season at Rochester tomorrow night at 6pm ET. It’s the one and only matchup this season between the two.

Fans should also check out a new episode of Rock City Unplugged on the Rock’s YouTube Channel.
