What to watch for vs. Halifax Thunderbirds

Rock Enter The Nest Looking To Continue Road Winning Streak

Halifax, NS – The Toronto Rock (3-8) have entered must win territory but at the same time still control their own destiny as they take on the red-hot Halifax Thunderbirds (7-4) at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, NS.  Wins are now an absolute necessity for the Rock.

Fans can watch the game vs. Halifax at 6:30pm ET on TSN 1&5 and on TSN’s digital platform TSN+ via TSN.ca and the TSN App as well as ESPN+.  To stream the game on TSN+ or ESPN+, a paid subscription is required.

Here’s what to watch for in Friday’s matchup.

  • This is the first of two meetings between the Rock and the Thunderbirds. Last season, the Toronto won for the first time in four tries in the Nest beating Halifax 11-9 on January 12, 2024. Corey Small scored 4 goals in that game including the game winner.
  • Despite being losers of three straight, the Rock are riding a 2-game road winning streak coming into tonight’s game. The Rock won at Calgary on Jan. 24 and at Colorado on Feb. 1.
  • Tonight will mark the first career NLL start for Rock netminder Troy Holowchuk. Nick Rose had started every game since Matt Sawyer took over as head coach for the 2017 season.  Overall, Rose had started 132 consecutive regular season games, a streak that began on April 23, 2016 at Colorado and will officially end tonight.
  • In 6 career games against the Thunderbirds, Tom Schreiber has scored 18 goals (3 GPG) and 32 points.
  • Following their morning shoot around, Halifax announced that Randy Staats had been moved to the Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP) and will not be available for tonight’s game. The offensive righty is the Birds’ leading scorer with 66 points in 11 games.
  • INJURY REPORT: Brian Cameron (Lower) and Josh Jubenville (Upper) both remain on the IR.
  • The Rock will play at Vancouver next weekend on Friday, March 14 before returning home to face Philadelphia on Marvel Super Hero™ Night on Saturday, March 22 at 7pm ET.

A new episode of the Toronto Rock Total Access Podcast is out now.  This week’s guest is Troy Holowchuk.  Listen to the show to get you ready for tonight’s game!

Fans should also check out a new episode of Rock City Unplugged, streaming now on the Rock’s YouTube Channel and on TSN+.
